BIOGRAPHY OF JUSTINE, CYPRIAN MICHAEL ESQ

BIRTH/ORIGIN

Cyprian Michael Justine was born at Ada Idu Street, Okuku in the then Ogoja Local Government Area now Yala L. G. A of Cross River State. About the hour of 2am on Friday morning on 12th September 1981 during the Second Republic of Nigeria to Mr. Justine Oyong and Miss Elizabeth Ekan of Old Ikwette Village, Bottom Hill Ranch Road in the present Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He grew up in Calabar and speaks Efik/Hausa Fluently

EDUCATION FORMATION
He started his formal education formation at Army Children Primary School Army Barracks, Ogoja between 1988 to 6th of August 1993 were he obtain his FIRST SCHOOL LEAVING CERTIFICATE (FSLC).

He was enrolled in September 20th 1993 for his Post Primary School Education in Agiga Secondary Commercial School. Ogoja a Private Catholic Institute own by Sir & Lady P. M. A. Ibol (Knight & Lady Auxiliary of St. John International) in 1995 he seek for transfer to Government Technical College Abakpa-Ogoja where he studied for three months in the College and due to the long Teachers Nationwide Strike same year he returned back to his former School where he completed his Secondary School Studies and sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in May/June 1999.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND
While in Secondary School and during the difficult moment of his life some family reasons make his father stop fending for him but with his fervent prayers to God his Paternal Cousin Pius Okang who was unaware of the present family crisis nominated him for this Scholarship funding.

For the development of the National Parks, he was among a total of 165 shortlisted students spread across the eight cells of the Cross River State National Park in April 1997 benefited from the disbursement of funds of the Okwangwo Programmes Educational Support Scheme.

The Environmental Education Specialist (EES) Mr. Anthony Bassey who led staff of the Environmental Education Sub-Programme to do the disbursement at Government Primary School Ranch-Becheve in Obanliku Local Government Area gave him a Cash of Eight Thousand Naira (N8, 000) a beneficiary who used his own money to registered in WASSCE in 1999 after been deprived of the his Educational Funding by his Father. Since then He’s used to fending for himself.

The purpose of the fund, he was advise to reciprocate his efforts among others by cooperating with the Park in order to realise his collective objective of protecting this unique rainforest along with its plant and animal species.

In June 1999 he applied to the Vocations Director Region of West Africa in St. Patrick’s Missionaries seeking admission as a Seminarian after the necessary clearance was done successfully with identification Letter dated 20th August 1999 from Revd. Fr. Julius Agba Ada the then Acting Cathedral Administrator, also an Affirmation Letter dated 19th August 1999 from the Apostolic Seminarian then Revd. Akobi David Wodah a Theology Two Student.

With his Zeal to study abroad, he sat for IGCE in 2001 were he obtained an excellent result. Financial constraint made him in 2002 proceeded into Ogoja Diocesan Communication Centre, Computer Department a Catholic Institute owned by the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja where he obtained a Diploma Certificate in Computer Studies.

In 2002 he applied for admission into the Major Seminary to the then Vocations Director of Ogoja Diocese Very Revd. Fr. George O. Chokpa and was offered a letter of invitation dated 21st September 2002 but the letter was handed over to him two days to the interview and with some recommendations from his Parish Priest Revd. Fr. Boniface Anom Ewa the then Parish Priest of Mater Redemptoris Parish Sankwala, a letter of introduction, Station Leader (Home Town) and His Referees with Medical Fee of N1, 500. Base in Ogoja as at then the means of raising funds and meeting this requirements was very difficult for him even after meeting some Parishioners and the then Cathedral Administrator no positive response was given and so he missed his chance of becoming a Diocesan Priest for the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja.

All hope not lost as he was waiting the final acceptance letter from the St. Patrick’s Missionaries but 20th August 2003 he received a letter from the then Vocations Director Fr. Pat Corcoran starting that his application cannot be process further.


Cyprian Michael was a material that can and should be formed and structured for the Catholic Priesthood but due to some unforeseen reasons no one knows where the problem lies why he was exonerate out from the Seminary Training.

CHRISTIAN LIFE
(A) BAPTISM
In a bid to fulfil all righteousness as a strong and devoted Catholic he was enrolled into the Catechism of the Roman Catholic in St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, Okuku-Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State in December 1994 and received the Sacrament of Baptism minister on him by Revd. Fr. Dr. Patrick Odey Idiku on the 15th day of April 1995 at St. Mary Catholic Chaplaincy, Yala L.G.A. whose Christian name was still Cyprian he was sponsored by the Catechist of St. Mary’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Okuku –Yala Bro. Sylvanus Ojie of Blessed Memory. His Christian name made him to further study the life of St. Cyprian Bp. whose feast day the Church marks on September 16 with that of St. Cornelius whose rein as 21 Pope between March 251 – June 253 AD and it was during his pontificate the first schism of the Antipope Novatian exist in the 3rd Century.
Cyprian chose to live the life of St. Cyprian Bp because of the doctrine in his De Catholicae Ecclesiae Unitate (On the Unity of the Catholic Church) and other piles ups of his writings which also includes De Baptismo (On Baptism) and De Oratione (On Prayer) This exposes him to his regular attendance to Morning Prayers/Mass above all other Christian activities. His Zeal of becoming a Roman Catholic Priest began to grow.

(B) CONFIRMATION
During his final year in Secondary School he enrols himself into Catechism again in January 1999 at St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja and received the Sacrament of Confirmation by the then High Priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja Most Revd. Dr. Joseph Edra Ukpo accompany by the then Cathedral Administrator Revd. Fr. Jim Inglis SPS and Revd Fr. Julius Agba Ada who was the then Bishop Secretary on Pentecost Sunday 23rd day of May in the year of Our Lord and Saviour 1999 the High Mass was also marks the 78 Years anniversary for the first Holy Mass said in the Parish on May 1921. He was sign with the chrism of Salvation as Michael whose origin was from St. Michael the Archangel collection of apocalyptic writings known as the Book of Enoch. The church combined the feast of St. Michael with that of the archangels Gabriel and Raphael on September 29, beginning in 1970.
Cyprian Michael with his ambition of becoming a Roman Catholic Priest began to grow stronger and stronger as a Missionary. His private studies of the theological books of the Church and the Teachings of the great Apostles and the Doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church make him excel high.

Since he left School in 1999 he was a Mass servers and a useful gentleman to the Senior Seminarian on Apostolic work to St. Benedict’s Cathedral Ogoja in the Basic Small Christian Communities of the Parish. The then Seminarian were David Akobi, Emmanuel Ujor “Diocesan Seminarians” Emmanuel Nnaji “Missionary Society of Paul” others too numerous to mention.

PRIESTHOOD FORMATION
He was offered admission into the Major Seminary in 2002 where he spent 3years in the Seminary, and due to some financial constraint he was unable to meet up with the demand and thus left the Seminary on his own.


LEADERSHIP/ACHIEVEMENT

His leadership’s in the society seems to come from cradle and was destined by God Almighty.

He was the Head Boy of Army Children Primary School Ogoja from 1992 to 1993.

During his Secondary School days he was elevated as the Assistant Senior Prefect (BOYS) of Agiga Secondary Commercial School, Ogoja by the School Authorities and the entire students in 1998 following the resignation of the Senior Prefect (BOYS) Master Sunday O. Oko, the School authority confer on him the post of a Senior Prefect (BOYS) of the school same year.

His one year of services as the Senior Prefect the School achieved a lot from his leadership; (a) There was Christian Fellowship (b) Morals and Discipline (c) Sporting Activities and extra curricula activities. Above all Higher Academic performance among Students;

He was loved by all the Students, the Proprietor of the School, Chief Sir P. M. A. Ibol (KSJ) and His Wife Lady Roseline Ibol (LAUX) of St. John, the then Principal Mr. Thomas T. Awogbami and all the staff of the school. The used of cane in flogging was abolish during his reign as SP instead corporal punishment was introduced.

Though as human he was envied, despised and made to feel dejected by the society and members of his Catholic fold. Still this did not stop his service to God and humanity rather he embraced it as part of his Cross and bear it in good fate.

He is intelligent and brilliant in the fields of studies and other domestic activities, very fast in learning.

He is of good character and conduct. A young man with the fear of the Lord; He is very good in planning, hard working, a disciplinarian and accountable.

He is not afraid of greatness, he always work hard and geared more effort in Education to achieve it.

He is good in administrative functions. He is a material that can and should be formed and structured for the good governance and administration in the Society.

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP
He joined Altar Boys Association in 1995 at St. Mary’s Catholic Chaplaincy in Yala LGA. He later identifies himself in 1998 as a Server in St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja.

He was Secretary of Altar Boys Association in St. Benedict’s Cathedral Ogoja for some months until he resign in 1998 and handover to his Assistant Master Vincent Odu Ntaji.

While in St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja he was elected on 6th November 1999 as the Ogoja Diocesan Altar Boys Interim Secretary, following his good governance and struggled for Diocesan Chaplain, Constitution and Diocesan Identity Cards for Mass Servers he served the Association for 30th Months. In April 2002 at Kakwagom he conducted the first Diocesan Election.

It is in this association that he experiences a long stay of interim governance.

He was a Marian Devotee and a member of Legion of Mary, St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja where he was granted an Auxiliary Member of the Legion of Mary on request in 2000AD.

His zeal to spread the good news of Christ came into fulfilment when on 11th June 2000 he was commissioned amongst other by the then Local Ordinary of the Diocese Most Revd. Dr. Joseph Edra Ukpo as a member of St. Benedict’s Lay Readers Association, Ogoja, few months after the commissioning appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the Association by Revd. Fr. Cyril Obi Bayim who was the then Cathedral Administrator.

As Assistant Secretary of the Cathedral Lay Readers Association he brought out the idea for the formation of Ogoja Diocesan Lay Readers Association a welcomed development by all. He was the then Diocesan Coordinator of Lay Readers Association who spearheaded most of the achievements of the Diocesan Lay Readers from October 2003 to December 2005. Diocesan Officials was formed with Hon. Francis M. Matiki in 2004 as the President of the Diocesan Association of Lay Readers in Ogoja Diocese, the struggled of the Diocesan Chaplain was sought out with the appointment of Revd. Fr. Francis Amu Oko by the then Diocesan Administrator Rt. Revd. Msgr. Patrick O. Idiku. The Diocesan Identity Card for Lay Readers and the Diocesan Lay Readers Constitution amongst other.

He was elected by the Executive of Parish Pious Associations/Organizations as the Public Relations Officer of the Parish Laity Council, Ogoja on 23rd of August 2000 – August 2005 and was commissioned by Revd. Fr. Cyril Obi Bayim.

On 25th of August 2000 he was appointed as the Parish Acting Sacristan/Catechist of St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja by Revd. Fr. Cyril Obi Bayim until April 2002 where he resigned this Appointment.
Since 1999 to 2002 he was in-charge of writing the Weekly Bulletin for Production at the Cathedral.

On 24th September 2000 he reformed the Parish Bloc Rosary Council of St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja by conducting an election of Parish Official and the establishment of this Crusade in the various Basic Christian of the Parish. And on October 12th to 13th 2000 he led the Parishioners for the 83rd Anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima in 1917 which was done with Rosary Procession/Vigil Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

Following his love for music, he joined St. Benedict’s Cathedral Choir, Ogoja as a chorister in 1999 until 2002 where he was elected as the Publicity Secretary of the Choir and was commissioned by Revd. Fr. Cyril Obi Bayim on 3rd February 2002. In 2003 he issued a Certificate of Participation by the Provincial Music Commission of Calabar Ecclesiastical Province in 2003 Provincial Music Congress held in the Diocese of Ogoja. He resigned as the Publicity Secretary of the Cathedral Choir in 2006.

He was elected by representatives from the Parish Choir in Ogoja Deanery as the Deanery Choir Publicity Secretary in 2002 to 2006. Until date he is still a chorister.

He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Basic Christian Community of St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja where he proceeded for his Post Secondary School formation.

Despite the predicament he is passing through he still has the zeal to serve God and on 28th June 2006 he joins the “Friends of St. Patrick” St. Patrick’s Missionary Society since some give to the Mission by going; others go to the Mission by Giving.

JOB SEARCH

After his first degree he was given a letter of Recommendation Dated 19th April 2006 by the then Senator Representing Cross River North at the National Assembly Senator (Dr) Greg. I. Ngaji to the Corps Marshal/Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission, National Headquarters, Abuja but with the present menace in our Nigeria System of Governance he was requested to tip the Admin Officer who was to process his application before he can be employ into the system. He later called the Senator and he informed him of the present development but he promised to look into the matter and the staff on duty that blissful day. I retired back and no response received.

He was later offer employment as a Receptionist with Protea Hotel Obudu Ranch by Janneman Britz Special Project Manager who stood in for the General Manager, on October 2006, he was later been promoted as Reservations Officer after meritorious service delivery by Paddy Prendergast General Manager Obudu Ranch Hotel & Resort who was the Managing Director of Frontier Management & Hospitality when Protea Management Team left in May 2007.

Due to the new Government of Senator Liyel Imoke, African Sun Management team a Zimbabwe Leisure Company was brought and since reconfirmation of Position as Reservationists following the company profile of was reissue on 10th December 2008 up-till date he is still working with the Company.

While at the Ranch he has help restructured the local Church St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Ranch Becheve to meet Parish standard by instituting Basic Christian Communities among the Communities, Annual Harvest Thanksgiving, Station Association like the Choir, Lay Readers, Church Wardens etc but still his effort was looked down as prerogative motive for the Station to be independent by the then Priest In-Charge of RCM Parish Utanga Revd. Fr. Matthias Ikogor.

He is currently planning to seek his Master Degree.

His interest include meditation, reading, writing/research, he enjoyed playing Christian music. He is charitably to all; he is a respectable person, gentle, quiet and well behave citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
